DUE TO COVID-19 THERE ARE NO PLANS TO HOLD A VILLAGE FETE IN 2021

In 2019 Appleford is hosted a special country fair to celebrate the 175TH anniversary of the opening of Brunel’s railway line from Didcot to Oxford. Appleford 175 is the village’s contribution to the anniversary celebrations.

WE HAD A GREAT DAY WITH EVENTS FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS

Events especially for children:

Ride on the children’s merry go round and bouncy castle, dare the 24ft Helter Skelter, and Cliff Jump.
Face painting, craft making and “Brunel” stove pipe hat making competition with best hat prizes
Children’s painting class run by Appleford Arts.

Explore the local countryside with the Earth Trust at Wittenham Clumps

Events for everyone:

Enjoy local beers, barbecue, sausage sizzle, Indian snacks, pizzas, teas, coffees, home made cakes, ice creams,,chocolate and popcorn, and more all available on the field.
Admire the engineering of preserved steam traction engines, and the marvel of scale steam models.
Learn about the model railway building skills of the model layouts from the Pendon Museum.
Enter your dog into the fun dog show – 10 judged classes.
Watch the pet dog display from the Abingdon Dog Training Club.
Listen to the Abbey Brass Band.
Enjoy folk music and watch the Wolvercote Morris dancers.
Try your skill on the archery range.
Learn to build an Anglo-Saxon house. The Sylva Foundation from Long Wittenham will explain their timber framing courses and woodland conservation work.
Admire classic MG cars, vintage and modern tractors, Oxfordshire fire and police service vehicles.
Enjoy village stalls, tombola, bottle, raffles,
Shop amongst the stalls for vinyl records, pottery, dog accessories, toys, craft furnishings, books, plants, cakes, confectionery, paper arts, stationery and more.
Watch out for the steam trains (Clun Castle engine), passing the fete ground during the day.

Transport

Train service to Appleford Station from Didcot and Oxford. The fete ground is 4 minutes walk. 
Special hourly bus service from 10:00am between Appleford, Didcot, Long Wittenham (for Pendon Museum), Clifton Hampden, Culham Abingdon and Radley. These will connect between the railway anniversary events at Didcot Railway Centre, Appleford, Culham and Radley.

If you can, please leave your car at home. Parking spaces on Appleford fete ground available for 200 cars.
