People across South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse are urged to remember their photo ID when they go and vote in the local elections on Thursday 4 May 2023.

On Thursday 4 May, residents will go to the polls to choose local councillors who will make decisions on important issues, such as where we should focus our efforts locally to help tackle climate change, where and how new housing gets built, how we work to ensure there’s enough affordable housing and much more.

Information for those voting by post 

If you applied to vote by post in the local elections, you should have received your postal voting pack.  Please complete and return your postal ballot immediately – votes will only count if they are received by 10pm on Thursday 4 May.   

Postal votes can also be returned on polling day to any polling station within the district where you are registered to vote, or dropped off at the district council office, Abbey House, Abbey Close, Abingdon, any time before 10pm on election day. 

If you expected to receive a postal voting pack but haven’t received it, please call 01235 422528 or email elections@southandvale.gov.uk immediately to request a replacement.

Information for those voting at a polling station

Polling stations will be open on 4 May between 7am and 10pm.  

To vote at a polling station in this election you will be required to show photo ID or a Voter Authority Certificate, so please don’t forget to bring it with you! 

You can also find your polling station on the poll card which you should have received through the post. 

If you are not able to make it to polling station on election day because of an emergency, medical issue or unexpected work commitments, you have until 5pm on 4 May to apply for an emergency proxy vote – details on how to apply can be found online on the councils’ election pages or by calling 01235 422528.
